Lincoln Anthony Blades is the President and principal consultant of All Things Being Equal. In order to understand his passion for ‘Cultural Impact Consulting’ and helping companies avoid making embarrassing missteps, you should know where he comes from, what motivates him, and his vision for the future.
He has worked as a journalist, a corporate communications specialist, and a digital media consultant. He has over two decades of traditional and non-traditional post-secondary experience, specifically as a student of Black and multicultural studies.
Lincoln’s career as a journalist and columnist played a large part in developing his social and cultural literacy. His writing focused on the issues of politics, race, culture, and justice. Lincoln worked with many high-profile publications such as Rolling Stone, Huffington Post, and Ebony Magazine, with his work also being referenced in the Washington Post and the New York Times.
Perhaps one of the most important positions in Lincoln’s career was his time writing for Teen Vogue, starting as a reporter in 2016 just as the publication began to become renown for incisive and inclusive journalism. After his first year with Teen Vogue, Lincoln was promoted to a weekly columnist, becoming the first columnist of colour at Teen Vogue and one of lead race and culture writers on the staff. His contributions to their “Kids Incarcerated” series assisted in them winning the Juvenile Law Center’s 2018 Leadership Prize.
Lincoln has also worked in broadcast television in front of live-national audiences as both a political pundit and a pop-culture specialist on networks in both Canada and the United States.
Yet, Lincoln’s most definitive designation is entrepreneur. Lincoln has over twenty years of experience as a registered business owner marketing products and services specifically aimed at multicultural communities across the globe. Whether it was producing live events, book publishing, or artist management, Lincoln has always taken an aggressive approach in activating his target demographic in a unique and unprecedented manner. Lincoln has made his fair-share of mistakes but that is an incredibly valuable aspect of his experience: he’s errors provided him with lessons that he now wants to pass on to his clients.
Simply put, he knows the challenge you are facing first-hand, because he has been engaging with, and communicating to, a multicultural demographic as a brand owner for over two decades.
As a business owner, Lincoln has continually assisted fellow entrepreneurs with creating captivating communications and communication strategies. Because he has simultaneously worked as a journalist, pop-culture pundit, and an entrepreneur, he developed an incredibly sharp sense for developing meticulously crafted communications and avoiding the gaffes and pitfalls he observed other entrepreneurs make everyday. He then took what he learned and helped his colleagues out when asked, so they could avoid those same mistakes. Although All Things Being Equal and Cultural Impact Consulting were established in 2021, Lincoln’s experience in this field far predates that.
At the end of the day, Lincoln is a rabid consumer of culture who, like many people of colour across the globe, is tired of being annoyed at terrible external communication gaffes. We, collectively, are tired of advertisements that trade in tired and offensive tropes and played-out stereotypes. We are tired of communications that belittle our intelligence. We are tired of explaining why representation is so important to us, and why we need it to be authentic. Instead of complaining, Lincoln is offering his services to help organizations’ improve their communications because a world with more cohesive and enjoyable communications is a win for us all.
